Know the landscape

Anza-Borrego is immense and unforgiving in equal measure. Marked nature trails introduce fan palms, bighorn habitat, geology, and Indigenous history; beyond them, navigation and road access become part of the trip.

Summer travel is high risk, flash floods can reach a wash from storms miles away, and cellular service is inconsistent. Current visitor-center guidance is essential after fire or storm damage.
