Stay on durable routes
Cutting switchbacks widens erosion and damages slow-growing vegetation. Walk single-file where trails narrow and step carefully when yielding.
Leave the place intact
Pack out food scraps, tissues, pet waste, and every item you carry in. Leave plants, rocks, cultural objects, and wildlife undisturbed.
Respect closures
A gate or closure sign may protect a washed-out trail, fire recovery, wildlife habitat, or rescue crews. Do not route around it because an older app track says the path continues.
Share the trail
Keep sound low, follow posted pet rules, yield thoughtfully, and avoid blocking the route for photos. Popular overlooks work better when everyone keeps moving.
Treat the official source as current
Trip reports are useful context, but land managers control hours, permits, closures, and fire rules. Check their page again on the morning of the hike.
